This SPIDER GLASS is a modern solution for exterior bolted glass assemblies, which secures the glazing to a support structure by means of point-fixings The high-grade stainless steel fixings are designed to absorb all static and dynamic loads (i.e. the dead weight of the glass, wind loading, snow loads and differential expansion due to temperature difference) and distribute them to the support structure.
Intermediate elements which are inserted between the bolt and the glass ensure:
- uniform transmission of stresses whilst avoiding local stresses;
- a watertight facade.
To begin with, the system uses SECUREPOINT, a specially toughened glass. Additionally, SPIDER GLASS now meets ISO 16933 standards. Therefore, it qualifies as blast-enhanced glass under the “Glass in Building – Explosion Resistant Security Glazing” classification.
Moreover, SPIDER GLASS offers a versatile range. For example, in monolithic glass setups, SPIDER GLASS includes articulated bolt-fixings. These bolts directly secure to a support structure. As a result, they keep the glazing firmly in position. Furthermore, the bolts allow movement in all directions. Each fitting, in fact, goes into a countersunk hole. Consequently, it sits flush with the outer glass surface.
Likewise, you can choose laminated glass such as STADIP SPIDER GLASS. When combined with heat-strengthened glass, it adds more safety. Installation & Fixing
Design principles
The size of the supporting structure must be adequate to take the weight of the glass and the wind load conditions so it does not put any strain on the glass itself. The glass needs to withstand the wind loads and imposed dead loads. There must be a gap between the two panes of glass to avoid transmitting stresses and to allow space for the mastic weather seal. Various types of support structures are possible. Seal: Panes must be sealed using a silicone mastic applied to an extruded silicone seal. (e.g. HYDROSTOP seal developed by SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS).
